I’ve just heard some great news and thought to publish it on my Blog…

Following thorough review, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID19 vaccine for use in children aged between 12 and 15 years. The UK regulator states that the product is indeed safe and effective for use in this age group and that the benefits of use outweigh any associated risks. The next step is for the UK Vaccine Committee (i.e. JCVI) to establish if children aged between 12 and 15 years should receive the jab.

The Chief Executive of the MHRA, Dr June Raine, recently stated that the safety profile of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID19 vaccine would be ‘carefully monitored’ in this patient cohort. In addition, Dr Raine underscored that: ‘No extension to an authorisation would be approved unless the expected standards of safety, quality and effectiveness have been met.’
