Once again, we have had a very busy weekend here at www.pharmascholar.co.uk
The delivery of the pharmaOriel module went extremely well on Saturday morning with a full house booked in. It was a pleasure to work with Mythily once more on this module. The participants had a wonderful time, learnt lots and were delighted with the tips they picked up. We wish them all the best for their turn at the Oriel assessment process. We now have a few slots left for this coming Saturday, 18th September, so be sure to book quickly via mike@pharmascholar.co.uk
In relation to the theme of employability, I also spent an additional 3 hours with a client who wanted to learn more about how to effectively apply for a Pharmacy Manager position once qualified. During the session we carefully dissected three job descriptions posted by well-respected players in the community pharmacy field. On review, we were able to list 17 key themes that were directly applicable to each Pharmacy operator in equal measure, namely:
1. Customer service
2. Care conversations
3. Expert advice / service delivery
4. Adaptability
5. Teamworking
6. Applying intuition to solve problems
7. Training others and building partnerships
8. Legal and ethical boundaries
9. Process review / audit
10. Building respect
11. Commercial acumen
12. Communication with others
13. Collaborative working
14. Learning and development
15. Technology and related application
16. Project delivery
17. Working to best (clinical) practice
From this list, I was able to prepare a total of 23 competency-based questions that may present at the interview stage; these questions were grouped into the descriptors of ‘Role Responsibilities’ and ‘Candidate Specific Attributes’. Examples include:
1. Can you give me a time when you provided excellent customer service? What happened and what was the outcome? [Customer Service]
2. Can you outline a time when you have been responsible for a project and how that project progressed with time? What was the outcome and how was that measured? [Project Delivery]
Overall, a very productive 3 hour session!
