Recently, I shared a draft of my new Pharmacokinetics & Pharmacodynamics Guide for Non-Medical Prescribers with a nurse contact for feedback. Her response was simple:
"I'd definitely pay £50.00 for this."
As someone who teaches prescribing and develops educational resources, that comment made me stop and think. Not because of the price. Because it reinforced something I've seen repeatedly over the years: Healthcare professionals are not looking for more information. They're looking for clearer information.
The Problem with Traditional Pharmacology Teaching
For many V300 students, pharmacology can feel overwhelming. Textbooks are often hundreds of pages long. Lecture slides can be dense and highly theoretical. Important concepts are frequently buried beneath scientific terminology that can make relatively straightforward principles seem far more complicated than they actually are. The issue isn't usually intelligence. The issue is translating pharmacology into something that is clinically meaningful, memorable and useful in an exam.
Why This Guide Is Different
When developing the guide, my goal wasn't to create another textbook. The aim was to answer the questions students are really asking:
What does this concept actually mean?
Why does it matter in practice?
How could it appear in the V300 exam?
What are the common traps and misunderstandings?
What do I genuinely need to remember?
Rather than presenting pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics as abstract scientific theory, every topic is linked directly to prescribing practice.
For example:
Instead of simply defining first-pass metabolism, learners explore why drugs such as GTN are administered sublingually. Instead of memorising definitions, they understand the clinical reasoning behind prescribing decisions. That difference matters!
Saving Time Is Often More Valuable Than Saving Money
Most non-medical prescribing students are balancing:
Study time is often their most limited resource. A revision guide that helps learners focus on the concepts most likely to be assessed can significantly reduce wasted effort and unnecessary stress. If a resource saves several hours of revision while improving understanding and confidence, the purchase price quickly becomes secondary.

When somebody says they would pay for an educational resource, they're rarely paying for the document itself. They're paying for:
Those outcomes have far more value than the number of pages in a guide.
One thing I've learned over the years is that educators often underestimate the value of their expertise. The concepts we explain every day can seem obvious to us. Yet for a learner encountering them for the first time, that explanation can be the difference between confusion and understanding. Sometimes educational value doesn't come from adding more content. Sometimes it comes from making complex content simpler.
That nurse's comment wasn't really about £50.00. It was a reminder that healthcare professionals are willing to invest in resources that save time, reduce stress and help them succeed. As educational providers, we should never underestimate the power of clarity. Because when learners understand why something matters, they're far more likely to remember it when it counts.
